Controversy Surrounds Chef Dammy's Marathon Cooking Session in Oye-Ekiti
The ongoing cookathon in Oye-Ekiti, led by chef Damilola Adeparusi, remains shrouded in controversy as she surpasses the 100-hour mark. According to information shared by the Spirit Word Mission, the determined chef has now spent a staggering 104 hours in the kitchen, surpassing the previous record set by Hilda Baci during her well-known cookathon in Lekki, where she cooked for 100 hours. Chef Dammy, who is currently cooking in Oye-Ekiti, has cooked for 104 hours and continues to push forward. A video posted on Instagram by Spirit Word Global Mission captures the moment Dammy crossed the 100-hour milestone.
Criticism and Controversy Surrounding the Cookathon
Since the cookathon's commencement on Friday, June 9, it has been marred by criticism and controversy. Some individuals have accused Dammy of striving to outshine Hilda Baci by extending her cooking hours. On June 12, a businessman even offered Dammy one million naira to cancel the cookathon, suggesting that she wait until Hilda's record is officially verified before attempting to break it. Despite facing considerable criticism, Chef Dammy remains resolute, determined to stay in the kitchen and cook for a total of 120 hours. Many Nigerians have shown their support and love for Dammy, while others have rallied behind her by offering a generous sum of 500,000 naira and the opportunity for a cooking tour in the United States.
Physical Presence and Rule Accusations
Numerous young Nigerians have traveled to Oye-Ekiti to be physically present and witness the cookathon firsthand. However, one attendee accused Dammy of disregarding the established rules and charging 100 naira for food. In a surprising turn of events, Hilda Baci broke her silence and tweeted her support for Chef Dammy on Sunday, providing a boost of encouragement amidst the ongoing controversy.
The Next Step: Verification by Guinness World Records
Should Chef Dammy successfully complete the 120-hour cookathon, her accomplishment will undergo rigorous verification and confirmation by the Guinness World Records. Even Chef Hilda Baci is currently awaiting verification of her 100-hour record, having submitted the necessary evidence. As it stands, the longest verified cookathon record is still held by Chef Lata Tondon, who cooked for an impressive 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019. This record will remain in place until officially superseded by the Guinness World Records.
