Tree Planting Event by IVLP Awardee, Prof Okereke, and young environmental leaders

In a heartening display of commitment and active citizenship,   the international acclaimed climate change expert and the United States International Leadership Vistors Program Awardee, Professor Chukwumerije Okereke, organized a momentous tree planting exercise in commemoration of World Arbor Day in Enugu yesterday.  The event brought together esteemed dignitaries, passionate environmentalists, and conscientious citizens, all united by a common vision of a greener and healthier Enugu State.

The event, held on a serene and sun-kissed morning, was graced and flag off by Mr. Albert Obiora Ekete, who  represent the Honorable Commissioner for Environment, Enugu State, Prof. Sam Ugwu, who has been a longstanding advocate for sustainable development in the region. With their unwavering support, the tree planting initiative gained valuable momentum.

Supervised by a dedicated team of environmental enthusiasts, including Mr. Basil Ojengwa, Mrs. Ogechi Nwonye-Bernard, and Mr. Elochukwu Anieze, the planting project adhered meticulously to global planting guidelines. Over 65 saplings were carefully planted, each representing a beacon of hope for a cleaner and more sustainable Enugu State.

The significance of this tree planting exercise cannot be overstated. The trees symbolize a profound commitment to addressing the pressing challenges of air pollution and climate change that have been plaguing the state. They stand as silent sentinels, poised to purify the air, mitigate the effects of climate change, and restore the balance of the local ecosystem.

What truly made this event special was the overwhelming support from the Government of Enugu State. Enthusiastic participants, both young and old, came out in large numbers to lend their hands and hearts to the project. Their collective dedication underscored the belief that this initiative would bring far-reaching benefits to the state as a whole.

In a world grappling with environmental crises, the IVLP impact project  serves as a beacon of hope. It demonstrates that collective action can indeed make a difference.  Professor Okereke thanked  and the entire team for being active citizens and showing that the power to combat climate change and protect our planet lies within each one of us.

Enugu State has taken a significant step towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future, and this tree planting event is a testament to the dedication and determination of its people to safeguard their environment.
